Why do I see this entry in my MT activity log so often:
Ping ‘http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2/’ failed: HTTP error: 404 Not Found
Anyone know?
my comments on business, marketing, advertising, email, CAN-SPAM, selling as a profession, photography, computers and other stuff…
The URL should probably be http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2 — no trailing slash.
Hmm. Just checked the activity log on MobileTracker, and man is it long. Did a quick search for weblogs.com and noticed:
* It does have a trailing slash (must be a MT thing).
* Most of my errors read: Ping ‘http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2‘ failed: HTTP error: 500 read timeout
* I got 0 errors with a 404.
I remember reading that Dave moved weblogs.com to a new server… Maybe your errors are from a time where DNS was still shifting?
I estimate that I get this same error perhaps a third of the time. I figure that it relates to a server bandwidth problem, as often I’m unable to load the manual ping page afterwards.
I suppose it could be something else, but I just have the ping page (http://newhome.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm) bookmarked, and keep trying until I get the ping through.
I also use it as a good excuse to review the activity log and see what folks have been searching for on my weblog…that’s often very interesting!
Edit mt.cfg and change PingTimeout from 20 to 90.
